Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants – What A Rumble This Will Be

It’s not the Sunday Night Game In America this week on NBC (ie, the Flex Game), and I can’t blame Fox Sports for protecting it, but the Dallas Cowboys/New York Giants tilt at the Meadowlands this Sunday is clearly the game of the week in my books. And there is nothing like a good implosion behind locker room doors to bring out the best in a dysfunctional team.

Three things will be crystal clear after the final seconds tick off the clock on Sunday. One - does Eli Manning have what it takes to lead this team? There has been no evidence to the affirmative yet. In fact, his Switzerland attitude over the infighting this week has only weakened his position on the Giants. Second - how much longer will Tom Coughlin be allowed to steer this ship? If they lose a fourth game in a row, this whole thing could ignite. And finally, and maybe the most obvious - can the Giants put all the sniping and bickering aside and galvanize there energies for the good of the team?

On a positive note, Coughlin is hopeful that defensive end Osi Umenyiora, linebacker Brandon Short and cornerback Sam Madison will be able to suit up on Sunday. And Michael Strahan better play. Unless a player has one foot in the grave, everyone better be ready and bring their A game, because these are not the same Dallas Cowboys who took the same 7-4 record to the Meadowlands last year and limped out with a loss – a loss that lead Dallas to spiral right out of playoff contention. This is a very different team – and Tony Romo is a leader. You can bet there is a sign up in the Dallas locker room reminding everyone that a Giants win means a season sweep, not to mention giving New York a 4-0 division record. I just don’t see Dallas allowing this to happen. I see Dallas finally getting the monkey off their backs and coming out of the Meadowlands with a crucial victory and the NFC lead. Whatever happens, this will be a wild one!
