This weeks' focus will be on the 2007 NFL Scouting Combine. For those of you not familiar, over three hundred of the very best college football players will be invited to participate in the NFL Scouting Combine (National Invitational Camp) held in Indianapolis, Indiana, from February 21-27, 2007. Top executives, coaching staffs, player personnel departments and medical personnel from all 32 NFL teams will be on hand to evaluate the nation's top college football players eligible for the upcoming NFL Draft. This intense, four-day job interview is an exciting time for the athletes and a vital step in achieving their dreams of playing in the NFL. This event began in 1982 as a means for executives of NFL teams to be able to ascertain medical information of the top draft prospects in college football. While the medical aspect still plays a very important part, athletes are now required to complete a battery of physical and psychological tests as well as interviews with NFL officials.
The tests/evaluations include: 40 yard dash, bench press, vertical jump, broad jump, 20-yard shuttle, three-cone drill, 60-yard shuttle, position-specific drills, interviews, physical measurements, injury evaluation, drug screen, cybex test, and wonderlic test. Perhaps the most newsworthy test, the Wonderlic Test is an intelligence test that has been given to prospective players in the National Football League since the 1970s. The Wonderlic is a 12 minute, 50 question exam meant to judge their aptitude for adapting to certain situations. Similar to other standardized tests, the Wonderlic uses a multiple choice format for its questions with increasing difficulty. It's designed so that most players won't have time to complete it. Pat McInally (P/WR from Harvard) is the only football player to record a confirmed perfect score.
Not surprisingly, the University of Florida (the #1 team in the country) boasts the largest number of invitees (13). Ohio State (the #2 team) had 8 invitees. Tennessee edged them slightly, with 9 invitees.
What football fan would not want the college jersey of one of these extremely talented players, who will most likely be on an NFL roster when the NFL Draft takes place in April?
We have many jerseys of the schools being represented in this years' Combine and we have the actual player jerseys of such college superstar Combine invitees as Baraka Atkins, Jon Beason, Kareem Brown, Ryan Moore, Tyrone Moss and Greg Olsen.
If you haven't done so already, now is the time to take a moment and visit our authentic college jerseys page.
