After failing to get Mo Williams and Steve Francis, Miami Heats finally found a strong point guard. Even without those big names the Heats still managed to get an exciting player. They signed Smush Parker from the playoff team Los Angeles Lakers. Smush is Kobe Bryant’s starting point guard last season and proved to be stable in both defense and offense. The Heats now have a luxury of having size, shooting and defense from a point guard and not to mention a lesser effort to score from their main man Dwayne Wade. Miami Heats is definitely on the right track, they have a great chance in getting to the playoffs and maybe a championship trophy.
The NBA was startled by yet another issue, this time not by the fans nor by its players but by a referee. The FBI is currently investigating Tim Donaghy a 13 year veteran referee for shaving off points during a game. No matter how it turns out, this will definitely be a huge problem for the NBA in its upcoming season. A crucial call by a referee can win a championship game, imagine if every referee bets on the game they officiated how would games turn out? The game is practically in the palm of their hands unless the team is up by a huge margin and only a minute left in the 4th quarter. Tim Donaghy’s expression might be “you bet ya!” for the last 13 years in his career. Is there only one rotten apple in the basket? That is what the NBA needs to find out.
Talk about hitting big in baseball! Japanese import Ichiro Suzuki gets the deal of a lifetime. The 2007 All-star game MVP took a $90 million five-year contract extension from his team Seattle Mariners. The move has created a buzz among MBL’s franchises, though the Mariners think that they made the right decision others think that it was a careless move. It is somehow a great risk to take a player at his mid 30’s and will be at his near 40’s at the end of the contract. Only one thing is for sure, all is well for Ichiro and by the end of the day he will go home with a huge “warai” on his face.
After the NBA 2007 draft was concluded, Greg Oden wore a no. 1 on his forehead. The question now is if Portland Trailblazers took the right guy. As the start of the NBA summer league in Las Vegas, players were able to showcase their talent to build a good first impression. Unfortunately Greg Oden flopped showing an awful performance in his first game against the Celtics. He fouled his way on the court getting a 10, only adding 8 points on his name and the worst part is, the Celtics only gave him a one-on-one defense. Could he be the leagues next best center or the next overrated player?
